Warm weather Viticulture
The main characteristic about this area is, no doubt, its warm Mediterranean climate. Different to other wine producing areas of the region, it has an Atlantic influence.
The varieties planted have taken advantage of this particular weather, with scarce Spring rains and plenty of sunlight, allowing a precocious harvest of well ripe grapes of excellent quality without any artificial sanitary treatment.
Undoubtedly, our greatest asset is the sun, which is plentiful and generous, providing over 3,200 hours of sunlight in 310 days. Under these favourable conditions, the cultivated varieties grow and develop all their character.
The Valley has a temperate – warm climate with no significant temperature variation throughout the year although the difference between diurnal and nocturnal temperatures is significant. (Average annual temperature is 17°C).
Rainfall is moderated (300 mm per annum), and Summers are dry. Under these conditions, the health of the plants and grapes is excellent .
The wind is gentle, and the night breezes provide excellent ventilation and keep the grapes healthy. In contrast with other regions of the world, no special treatments are necessary. In the Spring, the Atlantic winds coming from the Portuguese coast blow softly.
The vineyards take full advantage of these characteristics producing mature wines with intense and fruity flavours.
