On the occasion of the Wine and Gourmet Fair celebrated in Taipei last June 28-30, the Fair organization held the Annual Selection of the best wines on sale in Taiwan market.
This year, Coloma Alarije 2011, wine made exclusively with native Extremadura grape variety “Alarije” was awarded best White Wine. The Jury highlighted about this wine: “the special taste and aroma of pummelo and star anis which are typical only in this variety grown in Extremadura (Spain)”.
Alarije is indeed a variety which only grows in Extremadura. The name comes from Arabic “Al’arís” which means creeping vine, and it seems to be the result of hundreds of years of adaptation to the Extremadura soil of a grape variety of uncertain origin in the Middle East.
